The Movement for the Actualization of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) has appealed to the international community to prevent the deportation of its members who are seeking asylum in various countries. MASSOB cited ongoing persecution, killings, arbitrary detentions, and victimization of its members in Nigeria as reasons for their escape to foreign lands. The group requested foreign nations to protect these individuals and to intervene in the Biafra issue in Nigeria to ensure freedom of association and expression.
In a statement released on Friday, MASSOB’s National Director of Information, Comrade Samuel Edeson, emphasized the movement’s 26-year history of non-violent self-determination and pro-Biafra advocacy without any criminal record or arms struggle. Edeson condemned the Nigerian authorities’brutal actions against MASSOB members and called on the international community, including the United Nations and human rights organizations, to intervene and stop the harassment and arrests of MASSOB members in Nigeria.
MASSOB also appealed for global intervention regarding the harassment and arrest of members returning to Nigeria. The group highlighted the violation of the right to freedom of expression and peaceful assembly and urged the global community to take action to protect these fundamental human rights. The organization requested that foreign countries hosting asylum-seeking MASSOB members ensure their safety and refrain from deporting them back to Nigeria, where they may face life-threatening risks.
MASSOB remains committed to the peaceful pursuit of Biafran self — determination and calls for an end to the persecution of its members.
