RABAT, Morocco — The Morocco women’s national team is bolstering its preparation for the upcoming Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) 2026 with a pair of friendly matches scheduled in Rabat. The Atlas Lionesses will face Tanzania next Monday, followed by a confrontation with Ghana on Friday, April 17, both set to kick off at 6:30 p. M. At the Moulay El Hassan Stadium.
Head coach Jorge Vilda is utilizing these friendlies as an opportunity to refine tactics, enhance team cohesion, and provide players with valuable match experience prior to the tournament. Morocco is set to host WAFCON from July 25 to August 16, and the nation is brimming with anticipation, particularly as the tournament has expanded from 12 to 16 teams. The four semi-finalists will also gain automatic qualification for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil, increasing the significance of the competition.
Entering the tournament with confidence, the Atlas Lionesses aim to build upon their impressive performances in the last two editions, reaching the final in both 2022 and 2024. Captain Ghizlane Chebbak, a pivotal figure and Africa’s leading attacker, has been instrumental, securing the Golden Boot in both those years and the CAF Women Player of the Year in 2025. The friendlies in Rabat are poised to offer the first tangible indication of Morocco’s readiness to claim their first WAFCON trophy.
