LIBREVILLE, 5 April 2026 – The second conference of prosecutors from the Libreville Appeal Court jurisdiction concluded in Gabon’s capital on Saturday, with a key recommendation to establish a National Agency for the Recovery of Criminal Assets. The event, presided over by Secretary-General of the Chancellery Jacques Lebama, also included the Prosecutor General, Dr. Eddy Minang, and a French Embassy representative.
Among the recommendations were the expansion of the Prosecutor of the Republic’s scope and harmonization of internal laws with international standards set by the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) and the Group of Action Against Money Laundering in Central Africa (GABAC). The conference aimed to address the complexities of criminal asset recovery, with experts from across France, the region, and Gabon participating.
Roger Darnel Nguema Ondo, the rapporteur, highlighted the comprehensive review of legal frameworks for asset recovery. The two-day gathering also aimed to identify and improve challenges within the national judicial system. Secretary-General Lebama praised the experts’contributions, emphasizing the progressive implementation of the recommendations. The third edition of the conference is scheduled for the future.
