LIBREVILLE, Gabon — The International Transport Workers’Federation (ITF) is hosting a workshop in Libreville, Gabon, on March 30, aimed at bolstering youth participation in transport unions. The event, organized by the ITF’s Africa office in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, is set to gather approximately twenty young union members.
The workshop will delve into the ITF’s history, missions, values, vision, and priorities, while also addressing barriers faced by young people and women in union participation. Attendees will work together to define their trade union priorities and create an action plan for the 2026-2027 period. Additionally, the workshop will officially install the ITF-Gabon Youth Committee.
The workshop will be led by Bayla Sow, the regional deputy secretary of ITF Africa, and Assita Ouédraogo, the coordinator of women’s activities for ITF Africa. Both facilitators will engage participants through interactive presentations and group activities.
The initiative is financially supported by the ITF Africa office’s 2026 budget under the GFREGION 03 project. It is a follow-up to the 46th World Congress of the ITF held in Marrakech in October 2024 and underscores the importance of young people in strengthening the trade union movement.
