Kigali, Rwanda — Green Climate Finance Conference Concludes. Kigali, Rwanda (SONNA) — A high-level conference on Green Climate Finance concluded in Kigali, Rwanda, focusing on the implementation of a national climate finance mechanism led by the Government of Somalia.
The event, hosted by Rwanda’s National Climate Finance Institution, the Rwanda Green Fund, aimed to enhance knowledge exchange and best practices among African countries.
The Federal Government of Somalia presented its progress in climate action implementation and climate finance, emphasizing national priorities outlined in Somalia’s Vision 2060, the National Transformation Plan, as well as the country’s Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) and National Adaptation Plans (NAPs).
The delegation, led by Liibaan Cabsiiye, Executive Director of the National Climate Change Fund of Somalia (NCF), received support from the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office and DAI in organizing the conference.
The conference highlighted the importance of climate finance in supporting African countries in their mitigation and adaptation efforts against climate change.
It also underscored the need for better access and utilization of climate finance resources.
The Africa Climate Resilient Investment Summit (ACRIS VI), supported by the Economic Commission for Africa, the African Union Commission, and the World Bank, was a key event in the conference’s agenda.
The Rwanda Climate Finance Partnership, involving AFD and the Bank of Kigali, was also discussed, aiming to strengthen cooperation in climate finance.
Liibaan Cabsiiye expressed gratitude for the support received and reaffirmed Somalia’s commitment to strengthening cooperation with climate finance institutions and major organizations.
The conference provided a platform for stakeholders to discuss challenges and opportunities in climate finance and to share experiences. Further details regarding the outcomes of the conference are expected in the coming days.
