Oyem, Gabon — On April 13, 2026, a pivotal moment in the modernization of pension management was marked in Oyem, located in the northern region of Gabon. The regional head of the Caisse de pension et prestation familiale des agents de l’Etat (Cpff), Hervé Patrick Okangabere, officially launched the biometric enrollment campaign for retired public employees. The Agence Gabonaise de Presse reported that a total of 320 retired public employees were enrolled on the first day of the initiative.
The reform, which includes facial recognition technology, has been approved by the highest authorities in the country. “This significant reform aims to modernize the management of pensions, “explained Mr. Okangabere. He further elaborated that facial recognition technology links the retirees’photos to their existing data in the Cpff file, which is expected to facilitate the production of retirement cards in the future.
Additionally, the facial recognition system is set to eliminate the need for a physical certificate of life. “This technology will also allow us to do away with the certificate of life, which is a physical document, “assured the regional head of the Cpff. Those who were enrolled on the day of the launch will no longer have to present this document until April 2027.
The enrollment operation, which is scheduled to conclude on April 17, is being conducted exclusively in Oyem. Retirees from the departments of Haut-Ntem (Minvoul), Haut-Como (Medouneu), and Okano are required to attend the enrollment at this location, as indicated by Hervé Patrick Okangabere. The campaign is part of a broader effort to streamline and improve the pension system for retired public employees in Gabon.
