LIBREVILLE, 30 March 2026 – The Gabonese national football team achieved a dramatic victory in the FIFA Series 2026 tournament, overcoming Trinidad and Tobago in a penalty shootout after a 2-2 draw.
The match, held in Uzbekistan, saw Gabon’s Guélor Kanga and R. Essang-Matouti score the goals for their side, with Kanga netting in the 33rd minute and Essang-Matouti in the 54th. Trinidad and Tobago’s L.
Garcia replied with two goals, one in the 53rd and another in the 90th, to equalize the score. Despite playing a man down in the second half due to midfielder Nze Samaké’s yellow card accumulation and subsequent red card, Gabon maintained their composure.
The shootout concluded with Gabon winning 3-2, bringing an end to their recent streak of five consecutive defeats.
