In a significant development within the Democratic Alliance (DA), Geordin Hill-Lewis has been elected as the party’s new federal leader, marking a new era for the political outfit. Hill-Lewis emerged victorious in a closely contested election against Sedibeng councillor Sibusiso Dyonase, securing the top position in the party. The 39-year-old replaces John Steenhuisen, who decided not to seek re-election, allowing for fresh leadership at the helm.
Addressing the delegates of the DA, Hill — Lewis expressed his gratitude and commitment to the role. “My sincere thank you to each and every one of you, all the delegates of the Democratic Alliance, for placing your trust in me, “he. “I accept this responsibility with humility, with gratitude, and with a deep sense of duty.”The newly elected leader outlined his promise to the party and the nation, emphasizing his dedication to building a stronger South Africa for all its citizens.
The election results also saw Solly Msimanga elected as the Federal Chairperson, while Siviwe Gwarube, Cilliers Brink, and Solly Malatsi were appointed as Deputy Federal Chairpersons. In the Federal Council, Ashor Sarupen was named as the Chairperson, with JP Smith, Thomas Walters, and Carl Pophaim serving as Deputy Chairpersons. Dr Mark Burke was elected as the Chairperson of Federal Finance, further solidifying the party’s structure under Hill-Lewis’leadership.
