Gabon Announces Digital Driver’s License Ready for Deployment. LIBREVILLE, Gabon — 2 March 2026 (AGP) – Gabon’s Minister of State for Transport, Marine Commerce, and Logistics, Ulrich Manfoumbi Manfoumbi, has announced that the digital driver’s license is now ready for deployment.
The announcement was made during the “Le Gouvernement s’exprime “program, noted the Gabonese Press Agency.
The digitalization of the driver’s license, according to Minister Manfoumbi, represents a significant milestone in the modernization of administrative processes and the enhancement of security for transport-related documents.
The initiative aims to strengthen the fight against fraud, improve transparency in the management of driver’s licenses, and optimize the traceability of revenue.
The new digital license incorporates five levels of security, including two QR codes, an NFC system, a hologram, and secure signatures to ensure the authenticity of information.
The implementation of this system involves coordination between the General Directorate of Land Transport, the National Driving License Examination Center, the National Agency for Digital Infrastructures and Frequencies (ANINF), and the technical operator responsible for the project.
A pilot phase is set to begin in the communes of Akanda, Libreville, Owendo, and Ntoum before a gradual rollout across the country.
The estimated processing time for the digital license is 15 days.
This reform is part of the government’s commitment to modernizing public services and strengthening governance in the transport sector. Further details regarding the full-scale implementation and any potential challenges are expected to be provided in the coming days.
