Gabon: Government Launches Media Briefing on Population Census. Libreville, Gabon — 21 January 2026 (AGP) – The Gabonese Ministry of Planning and Prospective has initiated a media seminar aimed at equipping journalists with knowledge about the upcoming Recensement Général de la Population et des Logements (RGPL) or General Population and Housing Census.
The event, held in Libreville, was attended by the country’s National Institute of Statistics (INSTAT-Gabon), according to the Gabonese Press Agency.
Officials commented on the matter. It focuses on combating misinformation, fostering a better understanding of the census’s significance, and supporting authorities in the implementation of the national process.
The four — panel discussion, led by experts and technical staff from the Ministry of Planning and Prospective, addresses the importance of accurate data for national development planning and socio-economic needs.
The RGPL is expected to provide precise information on the national population, crucial for informed policy — making. This initiative is part of the government’s broader efforts to promote good governance and effective public policy based on reliable statistical data.
