Gabon: Over 7,000 Private School Students at Risk of Exclusion Due to Unpaid Tuition. LIBREVILLE, Gabon — 26 February 2026 (AGP) – The Gabonese capital saw the Council National des Parents d’élèves du Gabon (CNPE) convene this Thursday to address the looming threat of exclusion facing 7,209 students. These students were directed by the state to private educational institutions for the academic years 2023-2024 and 2024-2025.
The crisis stems from an ultimatum issued by 59 private school promoters, who are part of the Conference of Grandes Écoles Universitaires du Privé (CGEUP), according to the Gabonese Press Agency.
The promoters are calling for parents to pay at least 50% of tuition fees, warning that failure to comply could result in the students being expelled from their respective institutions.
The promoters claim that the Agence Nationale des Bourses du Gabon (ANBG) owes them over 12.
5 billion FCFA.
In a statement read by CNPE President Donatien Boulingui, the organization expressed deep concern over the situation.
The CNPE highlighted that many families lack the financial means to pay such sums, and the disruption of education could severely impact the future of thousands of young people.
The CNPE has called on the highest authorities in the country to intervene promptly to find a solution to prevent a social crisis and ensure the continuity of education for all affected students. Further details are expected as the situation develops.
