LIBREVILLE, Gabon — On Thursday, the Gabonese government initiated the first phase of an Expression of Interest (EOI) to select 150 poultry farms across the country, as reported by the Gabonese Press Agency. Agriculture and Rural Development Minister Pacôme Kossy and Minister of Entrepreneurship, Commerce, and SMEs Zenaba Gninga Chaning led the launch, emphasizing the aim to bolster the poultry sector and foster national food sovereignty.
The chosen farms will receive varied forms of state support, which includes constructing or extending modern, fully — equipped poultry sheds capable of housing 3,000 broilers each. Additionally, this support will encompass the provision of essential inputs like day-old chicks, feed for six production cycles, and comprehensive veterinary kits. The program also includes training aimed at enhancing the technical capabilities of the participating farmers.
The EOI, which opened on March 12 and closes on April 1, 2026, is a critical component of the Operational Emergency Plan for the Poultry Sector (POUFA). Adopted by the Council of Ministers on February 26, POUFA is designed to increase local production, promote poultry entrepreneurship, and contribute to the nation’s food sovereignty efforts.
This initiative is seen as a strategic move by the Gabonese government to modernize the agricultural sector and ensure a stable supply of poultry products within the country.
