Gabon to Strengthen Juvenile Justice System. LIBREVILLE, Gabon — 9 March 2026 (AGP) – The Gabonese Ministry of Justice has initiated a seminar aimed at enhancing the juvenile justice system in the country.
The event, which commenced on Monday, 9 March, in Libreville, focuses on the theme “Justice for the Best Interest of the Child,” according to the Gabonese Press Agency.
The seminar, intended for judges and court clerks, was officially opened by the Minister of Justice, Dr. Augustin Emane, and attended by the Deputy Representative of UNICEF, Dina Rakotoharifetra.
The goal of the seminar, as stated by organizers, is to bolster the skills of magistrates and court clerks working within juvenile courts.
Dr. Emane emphasized the crucial role of judges and court clerks in the juvenile justice system, highlighting the importance of listening and their professional and humane contributions to child protection.
He reminded the participants that the best interest of the child is a fundamental principle in all decisions concerning minors, especially in cases of violence, legal conflicts, abuse, or abandonment.
Pétunia Evouna, President of the Libreville Juvenile Court, explained that the workshop is aimed at reinforcing the competencies of magistrates and court clerks working in juvenile courts. She expressed the commitment to ensuring better application of national and international standards in child protection.
The Deputy Representative of UNICEF commended the strong participation of judges and court clerks in the seminar, which is scheduled to run until Friday, 13 March.
The seminar is part of ongoing efforts by the Gabonese government to improve the legal framework and practices concerning child rights and protection. Further details regarding the outcomes of the seminar are expected in the coming days.
