LIBREVILLE, Gabon — 17 December 2025 (AGP) – Huguette Nyana Ekoume, a member of the Union Démocratique des Bâtisseurs (UDB), has been elected as the President of the Senate of Gabon, replacing Paulette Missambo, reports the Gabonese Press Agency. Ekoume, who previously served as the Secretary-General at the Ministry of Economy and Participations, has now ascended to one of the highest institutional roles in the country, marking her emergence as a key figure in national politics.
This election comes amidst an institutional transition and signifies a political rebalancing within the upper house of Parliament.
According to parliamentary sources, former Prime Minister Paul Biyoghé Mba was elected as the third vice-president of the Senate, completing the composition of the new Senate leadership. Huguette Nyana Ekoume is the fourth woman to preside over the Gabonese Senate, following Rose Rogombé, Lucie Milebou Aubusson, and the outgoing President, Paulette Missambo.
