Gabon’s Minister of Higher Education Inspects Higher Education and Research Facilities in Haut-Ogooué Franceville, Gabon — 23 March 2026 (AGP) – Charles Edgar Mombo, Gabon’s Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, conducted an inspection tour in the province of Haut-Ogooué, southeastern Gabon, to assess the state of higher education and research sectors.
The tour commenced at the Interdisciplinary Research Center for Medicine in Franceville (CIRMF), where the government official discussed challenges faced by the institution, particularly those related to the high-security laboratory, recognized as one of the most efficient in the country. Mombo visited the University of Sciences and Techniques of Masuku (USTM), commending the initiatives in agronomy, fish farming, and broiler chicken farming.
He described these achievements as “mini paradises, “fostering innovation, local development, and student entrepreneurship.
The minister highlighted that the 2026 Finance Law allocates significant resources to strengthen scientific research, aiming to modernize national laboratories and align them with international standards.
The tour also addressed advancements in managing the social crisis at USTM, where a tripartite commission is working on the progressive regularization of administrative and salary situations of teachers.
Mombo continued his mission to Moanda, visiting the School of Mines, and concluded at the BBS within the Marie Nzaba school complex in Franceville, as part of the public — private partnership. He engaged with authorities and educational leaders, emphasizing the government’s commitment to prioritizing research and higher education in national development.
