Gabon Celebrates National Teacher’s Day with Commitment to Education Reform. LIBREVILLE, Gabon — The Gabonese government marked the National Teacher’s Day on Monday, March 23, with a commitment to elevate the status of educators and promote educational reforms. Officials commented on the matter.
In a speech delivered by Minister of State for National Education and Civil Instruction, Camélia Ntoutoume Leclercq, the government’s dedication to enhancing the teaching profession was reaffirmed.
The minister highlighted that the celebration goes beyond the traditional tribute, as it is part of a broader effort to introduce structural reforms in the educational system.
The program of the day included the hoisting of the national flag at the ministry’s esplanade, a prayer of gratitude, and an official ceremony to honor the most meritorious teachers.
Additionally, a meeting with stakeholders in the education sector was scheduled to present advancements regarding the special status of the education sector. Leclercq also announced the presentation of the tripartite commission’s work and the reforms underway, including the Interim Sectoral Education Plan, the Curriculum Guidance Framework, and the Concorde collection, which encompasses the first Gabonese secondary school textbooks since 1960. Education activities across the country were suspended on March 23, with classes resuming on March 24, 2026.
The government instructed regional education directors to organize celebrations in each province.
The government’s commitment to education reform and the enhancement of the teaching profession is a significant step towards improving the quality of education in Gabon.
