Gabon: Government Declares Land in Mambi for Mining Development. LIBREVILLE, Gabon — The Gabonese government has declared a 52,478-hectare land strip in Mambi, Mayumba, Nyanga province, as public utility, paving the way for mining activities, according to the Gabonese Press Agency (AGP).
The announcement was made during the Council of Ministers meeting on February 26, led by President Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema.
The decision, which covers an area of approximately 52,478 hectares, grants the state the authority to occupy the land for public utility, as outlined in the decree. This move is intended to facilitate the development of the mining sector, including the establishment of industrial facilities, access roads, and logistical platforms to support local mineral processing operations.
The decree, which relies on Article 1 and 2 of Law No.
6/61 of May 10, 1961, concerning expropriation for public utility, is a preliminary step for the exploitation and valorization of the region’s mineral resources.
According to the communiqué, the government’s aim is to develop the necessary infrastructure to support the mining industry, emphasizing the importance of transforming local minerals to enhance economic growth and development.
The decision has not yet been met with public reaction, and further details regarding the specific mining activities planned for the area are expected to be released in the coming days.
