Gabon/CEMAC: Activities Suspended Amid Financial Woes. Officials commented on the matter. Engonga Edjo’o reminded that “the last two sessions of the Council of Ministers of the Economic Union of Central Africa (UEAC) instructed the Commission to conduct an open dialogue on the issue with member states.”.
Consequently, he has tasked the Vice — President of CEMAC to conduct visits to the six member states of the Community, including Cameroon, Central African Republic, Congo, Gabon, Equatorial Guinea, and Chad.
According to him, the financial situation of the Community is now “more concerning, to the point of suffocating the regular functioning of institutions, including those of the Commission. Regional officials confirmed that the decision comes as a result of ongoing financial challenges faced by the CEMAC Commission, which has impacted its ability to carry out its regular functions.
The situation highlights the broader economic challenges facing the region, with member states struggling to meet their financial obligations to the Community.
The suspension of activities is expected to have significant implications for the coordination and implementation of regional policies and programs. Further details are expected as the situation unfolds.
