Africa Newsroom — Four agents of the Gabonese energy and water company, SEEG, were recently apprehended for fuel theft in Makokou, the capital of the Ogooué-Ivindo province in northeast Gabon.
The agents’identities have not been disclosed.
The arrest followed a complaint filed by SEEG with the General Directorate of Investigations (DGR) against an unspecified individual for fraudulent use of fuel cards and irregularities in fuel supply.
The DGR’s provincial branch in Ogooué-Ivindo launched an investigation on March 23, which led to the arrest of the four agents. Two of the suspects were placed in pre-trial detention at the Makokou central prison on March 27 for aggravated theft, while the other two were released.
The investigation is ongoing.
