Gabon Partners with DP World for Gas Project ‘Cap Lopez’Dateline: Libreville, Gabon — 12 January 2026 (AGP) Lead Paragraph The Gabonese government has announced a strategic partnership with the Emirati logistics giant DP World for the development of the “Cap Lopez “gas project.
The initiative aims to transform Gabon’s gas production and export model, significantly reducing environmental impact and enhancing economic diversification.
According to the Gabonese Press Agency, the project will involve the construction of a strategic infrastructure for storing and exporting processed gas at sea.
This move is part of Gabon’s strategy to bolster the utilization of its gas resources and align with global standards for energy transition. DP World, through its subsidiary Drydocks World, based in Dubai, has been entrusted with the project.
Scheduled for completion in July 2027, the project is set to increase the country’s daily gas production capacity by 105 million standard cubic feet.
The works are classified under Lloyd’s Register and involve the fabrication of over 700 tonnes of steel, laying three kilometers of pipeline, and integrating a boil-off gas recovery module weighing approximately 1,400 tonnes. This marks a significant step for Gabon, which seeks to enhance the value of its gas resources, diversify its economy, and align with international energy transition standards. Further details regarding the project’s financial implications and potential environmental benefits are expected to be released in the coming weeks.
The project is anticipated to contribute to the reduction of flaring, a practice with severe environmental consequences.
