TCHIBANGA, Gabon — President Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema’s tenure as Gabon’s leader has seen a significant push for economic development in the Nyanga province, marked by a surge in infrastructure projects and a vision for the region to become a key economic hub.
The construction of the Mayumba gas power plant, partially completed and set to connect to Tchibanga, is a testament to this commitment, as is the completion of projects like the fire station, sports platforms, municipal stadium, police officer’s school, and the multi-purpose hall renovation. While some projects in the province’s departments remain unfinished, the city of Tchibanga is witnessing the construction of the town hall, the airport, and the State’s pension and family allowances fund headquarters. President Oligui Nguema’s ambitious plan includes the deepwater port of Mayumba, which aims to open up the Nyanga province to the world and stimulate the development of the Southern region.
The president highlighted the province’s economic potential during the second edition of the Liberation Day celebrations on August 30. Governor Jean Robert Mabobet of the Nyanga province shares this optimism, expressing confidence in the president’s focus on the region’s development.
However, there are concerns about the current pace of development, with some noting the concentration of infrastructure in the city center, leaving peripheral areas underdeveloped. Despite these challenges, the Nyanga province is poised to become an economic powerhouse in Gabon, underpinning the country’s broader economic transformation.
