Pretoria, South Africa — President Cyril Ramaphosa has appointed two esteemed legal figures to the country’s Constitutional Court. The new justices are Nambitha Dambuza-Mayosi and Katharine Savage, whose appointments follow a consultative process with Chief Justice Mandisa Maya and Parliament’s political party leaders.
Dambuza — Mayosi, who has been serving as a Judge of the Supreme Court of Appeal since June 2015, brings to the role more than three decades of experience in legal practice, academia, and the judiciary. Her tenure also included an extended period acting as President of the Supreme Court of Appeal.
Savage, a Judge of the Western Cape High Court since 2015, has since 2024 been serving on the Labour Appeal Court. Both judges are set to join the Constitutional Court, a body that holds significant sway over the South African legal landscape.
In a statement, President Ramaphosa wished the new judges success in their new roles, emphasizing their “clear commitment to our Constitution “and their decades-long dedication to the cause of justice.
