ABIDJAN, CÔTE D’IVOIRE – Abidjan has been transformed into the global hub for African performing arts, hosting the 14th edition of the Marché des Arts du Spectacle Africain (MASA) from April 11 to 18. The event brought together over 800 artists and 500 professionals from around the world, showcasing a diverse range of cultural expressions.
This year’s MASA celebrated a significant global collaboration, with Morocco as the guest of honor and Brazil as the special guest, symbolizing cultural bridges between continents. The event’s opening was attended by Ivory Coast’s Prime Minister, Robert Beugré Mambé, who emphasized the economic potential of the arts.
The Secretary — General of the Organisation internationale de la Francophonie, Louise Mushikiwabo, delivered a video address, highlighting the role of art in unity and the importance of preparing young artists for the digital age.
Under the leadership of Director — General Abdramane Kamaté, MASA offered a comprehensive program that included training sessions, workshops, contests, and mentorship spaces, aiming to turn artistic talents into viable economic projects.
For Côte d’Ivoire, the MASA 2026 edition underscores its role as a key cultural hub in Africa, contrasting with the often dominant narratives of Nollywood and the South African film industry.
