Douala, Cameroon — A man hacked his wife to death outside a primary school in Douala’s Sisi neighbourhood on Tuesday morning, according to local reports.
The woman ran roughly 200 metres while her husband pursued her with a machete, collapsing at the school gate where he delivered the fatal blows, witnesses. Residents who emerged after hearing screams said the man fled on foot and was later arrested by gendarmerie officers who intervened when a crowd attempted to lynch him.
The couple, together for 19 years and parents of three children, had separated in December 2025 following earlier domestic disputes, family members told local media.
The victim had since rented a studio nearby.
On the morning of the incident, the husband reportedly asked for her at a neighbourhood stall, left briefly, then returned and started the attack.
The woman’s sister, injured while trying to block the assailant, is receiving medical treatment.
The victim’s body has been moved to a mortuary; officials have not yet commented on pending charges or a court date.
