Douala, Cameroon — A woman died on Tuesday morning after her estranged husband chased her through the Sisi area of the city and struck her with a machete, according to local reports.
The incident began at a roadside stall and ended near the gate of a primary school about 200 metres away, where the woman collapsed. Salt placed on the ground still marks the blood trail, residents.
Neighbors told independent observers that the couple had lived apart since December after repeated domestic disputes.
The woman had rented a small studio nearby; the man arrived twice on Tuesday asking for her, smoked a cigarette, then returned with the weapon, sources close to the matter.
The victim’s sister, who was also injured while trying to block the attacker, is receiving medical care.
Security forces intervened when residents attempted to lynch the suspect; he is now held by the Gendarmerie while investigations continue, official statements indicate.
The body has been moved to the mortuary; further details are expected.
