Mouila, Gabon — On March 27, 2026 (AGP) — The provincial director of fisheries and aquaculture in Ngounié province, Camel Boundoukou Mangoumba, conducted a meeting in Mouila to educate local fishermen on regulations governing their trade. This initiative is in preparation for a widespread control operation to begin shortly.
During the session, which focused primarily on the 2014 Decree No. 000/2014 that oversees artisanal fishing, participants were informed of the infractions associated with non-compliance. The director highlighted the necessity of using proper equipment, such as legal pirogues and conservation gear, to enhance working conditions. Fish vendors in attendance requested increased support, particularly in the areas of conservation and marketing of fishery products.
Responding to these requests, the provincial official encouraged compliance with regulations, suggesting the acquisition of a fishing permit for 50,000 FCFA and a fishing card for 10,000 FCFA. Fish pricing was also discussed, with scaled fish set at 2,000 FCFA per kilogram and unscaled fish at 2,500 FCFA per kilogram.
