In the early hours of Saturday morning, 11 April 2026, an inferno ravaged a portion of Logimar 241’s premises in Port-Gentil, the provincial capital of Ogooué-Maritime in western Gabon, as reported by the Gabonese Press Agency.
The fire, which erupted in the night from Friday to Saturday, resulted in significant material losses. Initial reports suggest that the blaze was triggered by lightning striking the maritime transport company’s facilities. Swiftly responding to the emergency, firefighters arrived at the scene to contain the flames and prevent further damage to the entire site.
Port Commandant Eddy Mayila confirmed the timely alert of the fire department, which promptly extinguished the fire.
In a bid to secure the area and mitigate additional risks, the SEEG, the electricity distribution company, promptly cut off the power supply.
The aftermath of the fire has led to substantial losses, including all office equipment within the affected offices. Among the spaces impacted was the office of the Port Commandant, which is now forced to halt its operations temporarily. This technical layoff is expected to persist until the facilities are fully rehabilitated.
The emotional impact of the disaster is palpable among locals and users in the area, as Logimar is a vital player in the maritime transport sector. Arnold Mavoungou, a local resident, expressed his concern: “This is a shock for us; Logimar plays a crucial role in maritime transport here. We hope this fire does not lead to a decrease in activities.”.
As the situation unfolds, the authorities are already contemplating the reconstruction efforts, which may take longer due to the extensive damage.
