Benadir Governor Launches Water Catchment Area Rehabilitation in Mogadishu. MOGADISHU, Somalia — The Governor of the Benadir Regional Administration and Mayor of Mogadishu, Dr. Hassan Mohamed Hussein (Mungab), on Wednesday initiated the rehabilitation and dredging of the Boondheere District catchment area (Warta Boondheere).
This move is part of the Mogadishu Local Government’s broader infrastructure development strategy aimed at modernizing essential services in the capital. Governor Mungab highlighted the strategic importance of the project, noting that the Boondheere pond is a crucial water catchment basin for five districts within the Benadir region. He explained that the rehabilitation would enhance the city’s drainage system, reduce flood risks during the rainy season, and improve mobility for both vehicles and pedestrians in the area.
According to the Governor, the maintenance and dredging of the facility are fully funded by the Mogadishu Municipality. He revealed that this is the third such project to be launched, following similar interventions targeting key drainage systems across the capital, some of which are currently under construction.
In addition to the infrastructure project, Dr.
Mungab addressed the upcoming electoral process. He encouraged residents of the Benadir region to exercise their constitutional rights responsibly.
The Mayor also called on the public to actively participate in the Local Council elections scheduled for December 25, emphasizing the role of citizens in shaping the city’s administrative and developmental future.
Further details regarding the project’s timeline and implementation are expected to be released in the coming days.
