Anthony Joshua Released from Lagos Hospital After Road Crash. Lagos, Nigeria — British boxer Anthony Joshua has been discharged from a Lagos hospital following a road crash that occurred on Monday, according to Nigerian authorities.
The two — time former heavyweight champion and Olympic gold medallist was involved in an accident near Lagos that resulted in the death of two of his close associates.
Joshua, who had been under “observation “at a hospital in Lagos, was deemed clinically fit for home recuperation and was released late Wednesday afternoon.
The Lagos state commissioner for information, Gbenga Omotoso, confirmed Joshua’s discharge on X, noting that the boxer and his mother visited a funeral home in Lagos to pay their respects to the deceased.
The deceased were Joshua’s strength and conditioning coach, Sina Ghami, and his trainer, Latif Ayodele.
Their repatriation to the United Kingdom was scheduled for Wednesday evening, Omotoso added.
The crash took place on the Lagos — Ibadan Expressway, a major thoroughfare linking Ogun state to Lagos, at around 11 a. M. Local time.
Social media footage showed Joshua being extricated from a wrecked vehicle while in pain. Initial reports from investigators suggested that speeding and a flat tire were key factors in the accident. Further details regarding the investigation and the condition of Joshua’s associates are expected to emerge in the coming days.
