LIBREVILLE, Gabon — The Gabonese national football team faced a setback in their opening match of the FIFA Series 2026, succumbing to Uzbekistan with a 1-3 defeat. The match, held on Friday, marked the beginning of Gabon’s tournament campaign.
Under interim coach Anicet Yala, Gabon made a promising start by scoring the opening goal through T. Averlant in the sixth minute. However, their lead was short-lived as Uzbekistan’s E. Shomurodov equalized in the 14th minute.
The hosts’efforts to regain momentum were thwarted as Uzbekistan’s J. Urozov and O. Shukurov scored in the 59th and 90th+4 minutes, respectively, securing the victory for the visitors.
Gabon’s FIFA Series journey continues with their next match against Trinidad and Tobago scheduled for March 30th.
