The Angola Oil & Gas Conference & Exhibition (AOG), organized by Energy Capital & Power, officially commenced in Luanda on Tuesday, marking the beginning of a pivotal event for the nation’s oil and gas sector. Scheduled for September 9-10, 2026, the conference is themed ‘Investing in the Future of Angola’and coincides with the country’s 50th anniversary of independence in 2025.
According to official statements, Angola is currently experiencing a significant surge in investment, with a total of $70 billion anticipated in upstream spending over the coming years. This momentum is driven by a one-billion-dollar investment pipeline that is already underway, as well as the expansion of activities by both established operators and new entrants. José Barroso, Secretary of State for Oil and Gas in Angola, emphasized the country’s strategic position in the hydrocarbon industry. “.
Angola is entering a decisive phase of growth and consolidation in the oil and gas sector, “Barroso. “We have already laid the foundations, so 2026 will be the year to convert projects into production and into real economic impact.”Key projects highlighted at the AOG include the New Gas Consortium’s non-associated gas project, which is advancing towards full operational capacity, and Azule Energy’s phase three of the Agogo Integrated West Hub Development.

Independent oil and gas companies are also making strides, with ReconAfrica, Corcel, Oando, and Sintana Energy focusing on seismic data acquisition and drilling activities. Frontier drilling is underway, targeting new Atlantic margins such as Namibe.
Downstream development is also gaining traction, with the Lobito Refinery currently under development and expected to begin production in 2027. This project aims to enhance fuel security, reduce imports, and support regional supply, reinforcing Angola’s ambition to move further down the value chain.
The AOG serves as a platform for strategic partnerships, knowledge sharing, and investment acceleration.
Over the years, the event has evolved from a conference into a deal — making platform, fostering partnerships and addressing key industry opportunities and challenges.
The conference is held under the patronage of João Manuel Gonçalves Lourenço, President of Angola, and endorsed by several key government bodies, including the Ministry of Mineral Resources, Oil and Gas, the National Oil, Gas & Biofuels Agency, the Petroleum Derivatives Regulatory Institute, Sonangol, and the African Energy Chamber.
