Marrakech, Morocco — The Digital Development Agency of Morocco (ADD) and the Korea-Africa Foundation (KAF) officially sealed a landmark agreement on Wednesday at GITEX Africa 2026, aiming to boost digital innovation and growth in both regions. The pact was inked by Amine El Mezouaghi, ADD’s Director General, and Ju Young Lee, the Advisory Committee Chairman of the Korea-Africa Foundation. This partnership is a testament to the countries’dedication to mutual knowledge exchange and the practical application of their shared solidarity.
The agreement outlines the construction of a high — performance, inclusive digital ecosystem designed to bolster economic expansion. The collaboration aims to harness the respective expertise and resources of both Morocco and South Korea to advance Africa’s digital society. It seeks to foster co-prosperity and modernize the economic landscape, emphasizing digital tools as pivotal for economic sustainability.
Key areas of focus include enhancing startups through cross — border “soft-landing “mechanisms and facilitating Moroccan innovators’access to Korean venture capital. The agreement renews both institutions’commitment to digital transformation as a catalyst for modernization and a symbol of long-term Morocco-South Korea relations.
Established in 1962, the relationship between Morocco and South Korea has evolved from cordial diplomacy to significant collaboration, particularly in digital development and AI. In 2024, trade between the two nations reached approximately $550 million. To enhance this, both countries signed a Joint Statement in June 2024, initiating discussions on a trade and investment framework, potentially an Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA), to boost trade flows. GITEX Africa 2026, a pivotal tech and digital gathering, witnessed the signing of numerous strategic agreements.
