Freetown, Sierra Leone — The Coastal Unity Boat Race in Sierra Leone was a vibrant showcase of the nation’s coastal heritage and resilience. The weekend’s competition, which attracted 16 communities, highlighted the balance between survival, environmental pressures, and the growing appeal of tourism in the region.
With a backdrop of intensifying environmental challenges, the coastline remains a lifeline for communities. It was also the scene of fierce competition as teams from Kissy Terminal and Port Loko vied for speed and skill. Coach Alhassan Yillah of the Kissy Ferry Terminal team spoke of the race as a demonstration of his team’s strength, declaring, “We came here to prove that Kissy Terminal, Port Loko, has the team.
