African Union to Host High-Level Platform on Peace Financing – ImNews Reporting from Addis Ababa
Addis Ababa, Ethiopia – The African Union (AU) is set to convene a significant high-level platform focused on securing sustainable funding for peace initiatives across the continent. ImNews has learned that this crucial event will take place on Saturday, February 15, 2025, at the AU headquarters in Addis Ababa, coinciding with the 38th AU Summit.
According to AU sources speaking to ImNews, the platform will explore innovative partnerships aimed at significantly boosting the AU Peace Fund. This fund is the cornerstone of Africa’s efforts to finance its own peace operations and plays a vital role in conflict prevention, mediation, and long-term stability efforts.
The event will also serve as a formal recognition of the nations and organizations that have contributed to the Peace Fund. Since its revitalization in 2018, the fund has met its initial $400 million target through contributions from AU member states and various international partners. However, with escalating peace and security challenges across Africa, the AU is seeking to expand commitments and diversify funding sources to guarantee the fund’s long-term effectiveness and impact.
ImNews anticipates that the high-level platform will draw attendance from numerous African Heads of State and Government, top AU Commission officials, and key contributors to the Peace Fund, including representatives from the private sector and major multilateral financial institutions.
