Meknes, Morocco — Amidst the backdrop of SIAM 2026, African agriculture ministers converged in Meknes to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the Initiative for the Adaptation of African Agriculture (AAA), reflecting on a decade of resilience against the challenges of climate change. Chaired by Morocco’s Minister of Agriculture, Ahmed El Bouari, the conference marked a significant milestone in the continent’s efforts to bolster climate-resilient farming systems. Representatives from 13 African countries, including 10 ministers, along with partners from various institutions and civil society, were present to review a decade of progress and to chart the course for the next phase of adaptation.
The anniversary conference underscored the critical role of agriculture in achieving food sovereignty, economic stability, and sustainable development. Participants emphasized that adapting African agriculture is no longer a mere technical issue but a strategic imperative.
The event also featured Princess Sarah Bint Bandar Bin Abdulaziz, Executive Director of the International Dates Council, adding prestige to the occasion. The ministers concluded the conference with the adoption of the “Meknes Declaration, “reaffirming their commitment to agricultural adaptation as a continental priority.
The declaration, alongside the endorsed “Vision 2036″roadmap, developed in partnership with the FAO, aims to guide climate-resilient agricultural policies and operational strategies for the next decade, providing a roadmap for Africa’s sustainable agricultural future.
