JOHANNESBURG — Kaizer Chiefs secured a crucial 2-0 victory over TS Galaxy on Sunday, bolstering their position in the South African Premiership and edging closer to qualification for the CAF Confederation Cup. Flavio Da Silva opened the scoring for Chiefs in the 35th minute, followed by a stunning goal from Glody Lilepo in the 74th minute.
The match, which was briefly halted due to lightning and a temporary floodlight failure, saw Lilepo’s strike from outside the box as the highlight of the game. The Democratic Republic of Congo forward’s powerful effort left Ivorian goalkeeper Ira Tape stranded.
With this win, Kaizer Chiefs now sit three points ahead of fourth — placed AmaZulu, despite having two matches in hand. The team’s remaining fixtures are predominantly away games, which could pose significant challenges.
In contrast, TS Galaxy’s league form has taken a downturn, with the team suffering their eighth loss in the last nine matches. Their last victory was on January 21. Galaxy’s upcoming South African FA Cup final against Durban City on May 2 offers a glimmer of hope, but their league struggles continue.
Elsewhere in the league, Thabang Mahlangu’s penalty was saved by Kagisho Mlambo in a 0-0 draw between Orbit College and Marumo Gallants in Bloemfontein. The draw left both teams with 19 points, two more than bottom club Magesi, who have played one match fewer.
