Johannesburg — The South African Premiership’s third-place battle heated up as Kaizer Chiefs secured a crucial 2-0 victory over TS Galaxy, edging closer to a spot in the CAF Confederation Cup. Flavio Da Silva and Glody Lilepo scored the goals that sealed the win in Johannesburg.
Da Silva, the Guinea — Bissau striker, got the scoring started in the 35th minute, marking the Chiefs’presence in the top three. Lilepo then doubled the lead with a stunning goal in the 74th minute, showcasing a remarkable individual effort.
The match was disrupted by lightning and the temporary failure of the floodlights, but Chiefs’players remained resolute. With 42 points and a three-point lead over AmaZulu, Chiefs now have two matches in hand. However, they face a tough challenge with seven of their remaining eight fixtures away from home.
TS Galaxy’s season has taken a downturn, with this loss marking their eighth in nine matches. Their last victory was back on January 21. The club’s hopes now lie with the South African FA Cup final against Durban City on May 2, where the winner will join the third-placed team in the Confederation Cup.
Elsewhere in the league, Thabang Mahlangu of Orbit College missed a penalty in a 0-0 draw with Marumo Gallants, maintaining the bottom club Magesi’s precarious position in the standings.
