PORT — GENTIL, Gabon (AGP) – The province of Ogooué-Maritime in western Gabon is buzzing with activity as it gears up to welcome President Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema, who is scheduled to arrive on April 12 and 13. Governor Françoise Assengone Obame has taken the lead in engaging with key local stakeholders, including public administrators, elected officials, business leaders, and civil society organizations, to ensure a seamless and respectful reception.
Obame emphasized that while the official itinerary for the president’s visit has yet to be finalized, an outline has been presented. The president is expected to kick off his trip with a visit to Gamba, where he will preside over the launch of the operation of a new oil well acquired by Assala. Following this, he is due to arrive in Port-Gentil in the afternoon to inspect projects initiated by the Committee for the Transition and Restoration of Institutions (CTRI), which is currently on hold. The day will conclude with an official ceremony, including a dinner.
The following day, the activities are set to commence with the raising of the national flag, followed by a visit to the site of Sagara to launch the operations of the Gabonese Petroleum Products Storage Company (SGEPP) in the province. However, Governor Obame clarified that the schedule is subject to change.
This visit holds significant symbolic importance as it coincides with the 12th of April, marking the anniversary of the president’s ascension to the highest office. Obame described this as a “distinction of great consideration “for Ogooué-Maritime. She also highlighted the special bond between the president and the province, where he completed part of his academic journey, calling for a general mobilization to ensure a warm, dignified, and exemplary welcome.
To facilitate this grand event, organization committees have been established to coordinate various activities. The aim is to showcase the locals’ability to organize and their sense of hospitality.
