In a significant move to bolster the gaming sector and digital landscape, Morocco’s Ministry of Youth, Culture and Communication joined forces with Huawei Morocco to ink a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on Tuesday. The agreement, which was sealed on the fringes of GITEX Africa 2026 in Marrakech, signifies a commitment to fostering a competitive gaming ecosystem and spurring growth in the industry. Representing Morocco at the signing were Minister Mohamed Mehdi Bensaid and Huawei Morocco CEO David Li, with Huawei Morocco Vice President Anis Liu also in attendance.
The MoU is poised to make a substantial impact on the gaming industry, particularly as it aligns with the upcoming Morocco Gaming Expo 2026, set to take place from May 20-24 in Rabat. Under the terms of the agreement, Huawei will outfit workshop spaces at the event with the necessary tools and resources for developers. Additionally, the company has pledged to assist in the training and mentorship of five Moroccan video game developers chosen by the ministry. The overarching aim is to cultivate a new generation of talent that can compete on an international level in both creative and technological domains.
This collaboration also extends to supporting Moroccan teams in participating in Huawei’s international technology development programs. It underscores a public-private partnership model that emphasizes training, skill transfer, and digital innovation. Huawei’s Li emphasized the strategic importance of the gaming industry, noting, “The gaming industry is now a strategic lever at the intersection of creativity, technology, and entrepreneurship.
Through this partnership, we are taking a new step in building a competitive and innovative ecosystem.”In a conversation with Morocco World News (MWN), Liu highlighted Huawei’s commitment to supporting Morocco’s youth and helping to realize their projects. “Huawei’s vision is to always support Morocco, especially its youth, in turning their projects into reality and to help create more wealth for the country, “Liu stated.
The partnership builds upon the success of last year, when five Moroccan startups — Geek Culture Agency, AB Progress, Yaaz Company, KOKORO Games, and OCTAV Studio – were chosen for a structured support program. These startups gained access to Huawei Cloud, specialized training, and technical mentorship, all designed to help them thrive in the video game market.
The MoU was signed during the fourth edition of GITEX Africa Morocco, an event that commenced on Tuesday and runs through Thursday at Place Bab Jdid. The gathering, which is organized by the Digital Development Agency and KAOUN International under Morocco’s Ministry of Digital Transition and Administrative Reform, is hosting 1,450 exhibitors and startups from over 145 countries, with organizers anticipating over 55,000 attendees.
