Wad Madani, Sudan — Governor Al-Tahir Ibrahim Al-Khair of Al-Gezira State has launched a resilience and self-reliance project at the Um Barona nursery in Wad Madani. Funded by the World Food Programme (WFP) and the Edhafa Organization for Disaster Relief and Development, the initiative aims to assist 2,400 individuals over a two-year period with a budget of $300,000. The project is intended to transform aid recipients into productive contributors, aligning with the state’s broader goal of enhancing agricultural and livestock sectors.
Governor Al — Khair pledged to extend the project to all localities in the state, emphasizing the program’s role in the government’s transformation efforts. Dr. Arafa Mahmoud, Director General of the Ministry of Production, highlighted the WFP’s contribution to food security, detailing the project’s components such as open-field and greenhouse farming, and livestock production including poultry and fish.
Adil Mohamed Al — Hassan Al-Khatib, Executive Director of Greater Wad Madani Locality, emphasized the significance of productive projects in driving economic transformation. Mudathir Othman Al-Mahboub, Director of the Edhafa Organization in the state, noted the project’s alignment with the state government’s development and production-oriented strategies.
