Saint — Denis, France — Senegal’s national squad carried the Africa Cup of Nations trophy around the Stade de France on Saturday night, hours after Morocco declared the competition “closed” following CAF’s decision to award them the 2026 title.
Captain Kalidou Koulibaly led the lap of honour before a friendly against Peru, preceded by a concert from Senegalese singer Youssou Ndour.
The display comes weeks after CAF’s appeals panel overturned Senegal’s 1-0 extra-time victory in January’s Rabat final, converting the result to a 3-0 win for Morocco.
Senegal’s football federation says it will appeal the ruling to CAF and, if necessary, to the Court of Arbitration for Sport, a process that could last a year.
