Former Arsenal Star Partey to Plead Not Guilty to Additional Rape Charges. London, United Kingdom — Lead Paragraph Former Arsenal footballer Thomas Partey is set to enter a not guilty plea to two new charges of rape, as announced by his legal counsel in a London court on Friday.
The 32-year-old Ghanaian midfielder, currently playing for Spanish club Villarreal, is also facing trial on five counts of rape and one count of sexual assault.
The new charges stem from allegations made by a different woman, who claimed Partey raped her twice on the same day in December 2020. Partey’s lawyer, Emma Fenn, informed the court of his client’s intention to deny the new charges.
The case is scheduled for further proceedings on April 10.
The initial charges against Partey were brought to light following the publication of the first set of allegations. He is due to stand trial in November at Southwark Crown Court for alleged offences committed between 2021 and 2022. Partey, who joined Arsenal from Atletico Madrid in 2020, was charged in July 2022, just days after his contract with Arsenal expired.
He signed with Villarreal in August of the same year, two days after being granted bail. Ghana’s national team, for which Partey has made over 50 appearances, has qualified for the upcoming FIFA World Cup, where it will compete against England, Croatia, and Panama.
The matter is ongoing, with further details expected as the trial progresses.
Partey’s next court appearance is set for April 10, where the specifics of his plea and the judicial process will continue to unfold.
