Somalia, Djibouti Strengthen Higher Education and Research Ties. Mogadishu, Somalia — Somalia and Djibouti have taken a significant step towards enhancing their educational and research collaboration by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) today.
The agreement, signed in Mogadishu, aims to deepen bilateral cooperation in higher education and research, fostering academic and research exchanges between universities and higher — education institutions in both countries.
Key provisions of the MoU include student and faculty exchanges, short — term training and research programs, joint conferences, workshops, and seminars.
Additionally, the agreement facilitates the implementation of joint degree programs at the Bachelor’s, Master’s, and PhD levels. Streamlined arrangements for scholarships and recognition of qualifications are also part of the agreement.
Both governments have committed to protecting intellectual property arising from joint research in accordance with national laws and international agreements.
Somalia’s Minister of Education, Culture and Higher Education, Farah Sheikh Abdulqadir, emphasized that the MoU will reinforce the historic fraternal ties between Somalia and Djibouti, while also improving the quality of higher education and research capacity in Somalia. Djibouti’s Minister of Higher Education and Research, Nabil Mohamed Ahmed, highlighted the partnership as an opportunity to create broad opportunities for students and faculty, supporting regional knowledge and development.
