Seif al — Islam Gadhafi Dies in Zintan, Libyan Authorities Report. Zintan, Libya — Seif al-Islam Gadhafi was killed on Tuesday in Zintan, Western Mountain officials confirmed.
The former leader’s son had lived in the town since his 2017 release from detention, according to local statements.
Libyan authorities said unknown gunmen entered his residence on Tuesday morning.
The motive and the identity of the attackers have not been disclosed. Security cordons were erected around the area while forensic teams conducted examinations, local sources report.
At 53, Seif al-Islam was educated at the London School of Economics and once symbolized the regime’s modernizing wing.
He was captured by militiamen in 2011 while trying to cross into Niger, spent six years in detention, and avoided the death sentence issued against him in 2015 by remaining in Zintan under informal local protection. Officials in the town have promised a formal investigation and said further information will follow once initial findings are delivered.
Hospital administrators in Zintan have confirmed the receipt of the remains, though they provided no additional details.
