Somali Interior Minister Arrives in Pakistan for Institutional Talks. Islamabad, Pakistan — Somalia’s Minister of Interior, Federal Affairs and Reconciliation, Ali Yusuf Ali (Hosh), landed in Islamabad on 20 January for a working visit aimed at deepening cooperation with Pakistan on civil registration, elections and disaster management, according to official statements.
The minister leads a delegation that includes the chair of Somalia’s National Independent Electoral Commission, the director-general of the National Identification and Registration Authority, the commissioner of the Somali Disaster Management Agency and the deputy commander of the Somali Police Force.
Somalia’s ambassador to Pakistan, Sheikh Noor Mohamed Hassan, greeted the group at the airport alongside Pakistani protocol officials. Government communiqués indicate the two sides will spend several days reviewing Pakistan’s experience with biometric ID systems, voter-roll compilation and emergency-response coordination.
Somali officials are also scheduled to observe Pakistan’s National Database and Registration Authority facilities and meet senior interior ministry counterparts.
The visit forms part of Mogadishu’s wider push to rebuild state institutions after decades of conflict. Local reports note that Somalia plans to hold a direct national election for the first time since 1969, and Islamabad has previously helped African states modernise civil-registration infrastructure. Officials have not disclosed the length of the stay or whether any agreements will be signed.
Further details are expected once the programme ends.
