Gabon: Minister Massamba Initiates Engagement with Fisheries Administrations. LIBREVILLE, Gabon — 14 January 2026 (AGP) – Aimé Martial Massamba, the newly appointed Minister of the Sea, Fisheries, and Blue Economy, has commenced a series of meetings with administrative bodies under his department’s jurisdiction. These engagements are part of Massamba’s initial outreach to ministry staff, aiming to strengthen governance and strategic planning within the sector.
During his visits to the General Secretariat of the Ministry, the Fishery Surveillance Center, and the General Directorate of Fisheries and Aquaculture, Massamba engaged with agents to discuss their perspectives on sector governance, data reliability, and the enhancement of human and material resources.
The discussions highlighted the need to update operator files to ensure data accuracy, crucial for effective governance.
The reorganization of fish landing centers was also prioritized to better control market products and manage fishery resources more efficiently.
Massamba was also made aware of the structural constraints faced by the Statistics Department, including a shortage of human resources and logistical support. Solutions proposed included optimizing existing resources, continuous staff training, and a more rational service organization.
The minister also emphasized the importance of reinforcing human and material capacities.
The General Secretariat has been tasked with continuing discussions with the Ministry of Forests and Water to secure additional resources.
In his remarks, Massamba called for collective commitment from staff to address the challenges of the sector. He stressed the need for a performance-based work environment built on loyalty, discipline, competitiveness, and transparency.
