Togolese Citizens Show Strong Support for Joining Alliance of Sahel States

Over half (54%) of Togolese citizens support joining the Alliance of Sahel States (AES), even if it means withdrawing from ECOWAS, according to a recent Afrobarometer survey. The survey of 1,200 respondents revealed that support is higher among men (57%) than women (50%). Almost two-thirds (64%) of Togolese believe Mali, Burkina Faso, and Niger are justified in leaving ECOWAS. Togo’s foreign minister mentioned the country’s potential accession to the AES in March.
