MOSCOW (Sputnik) – Russian President Vladimir Putin said in a greeting message to the organizers and participants of the Great African Expedition that the research of Russian specialists will serve to ensure the food security of the continent, the Kremlin said on Wednesday.
The Great African Expedition of 2024-2025 started from Kaliningrad on August 21. The purpose of the research mission will be to assess the state of aquatic bioresources in the exclusive economic zones of Africa.
“Dear friends! Relations between Russia and African countries are on the rise – this was fully confirmed by the results of the second Russia-Africa summit held last year in St. Petersburg. Traditionally, fishing is an important area of our economic cooperation. The Great African Expedition organized by the Federal Agency for Fisheries will undoubtedly contribute to the intensification of joint work in this area,” Putin said in the telegram.
The purpose of such a large-scale, truly unique scientific research project is to assess the state of the reserves of aquatic biological resources in the exclusive economic zones of African countries, the president said.
“We proceed from the fact that the research of Russian specialists will contribute to improving the efficiency of fishing carried out by our African partners, which, in turn, will serve to ensure the food security of the African continent,” the telegram read.
Putin also thanked those who contributed to the preparation of the Great African Expedition and wished all its participants success and productive work.
