In the years 2016 to 2018, in the heart of the territory of Masisi, in the province of North Kivu in the Democratic Republic of Congo, a glimmer of hope emerged among 8,715 households affected by armed conflicts, including displaced people, natives, host families and returnees. This project, entitled “Support for households affected by armed conflicts in North Kivu in the Democratic Republic”, enabled these targeted households to engage in agricultural activities thanks to agricultural inputs provided.
At the heart of these efforts was the relaunch of agricultural activities during season B of 2017, with the cultivation of beans and corn, the establishment of community nurseries for market gardeners, as well as the involvement of communities in the cultivation of fruit trees. This project not only provided sustainable livelihoods, but also strengthened the social fabric of the community, demonstrating the strength and resilience of residents in the face of adversity.
This initiative, called “Farmer Field School”, has become the symbol of a community which, despite the challenges it faced, was able to take charge of itself and cultivate a better future for its members. Through work on the land and solidarity between neighbors, these men and women have shown that hope and determination can transform lives and build stronger communities.
