Johannesburg, South Africa –
Ben Joubert, South Africa’s Sous Sherpa to BRICS, has reaffirmed the group’s commitment to amplifying the voice of the Global South on the international stage, emphasizing its role in promoting inclusive multilateral reform and peaceful transitions in conflict zones.
Speaking to Sputnik Africa, Joubert highlighted that BRICS is actively working to ensure that the interests and perspectives of developing countries are recognized in global decision-making bodies.
“We will contribute to the ongoing process to ensure that the voice of the Global South is truly projected and heard in those organizations,” Joubert stated.
He stressed the need for a reformed, equitable multilateral order where all regions are represented, and called for peaceful solutions in areas facing political or social unrest.
While advocating reform, Joubert acknowledged the United Nations as the centerpiece of the current global multilateral framework, asserting that its reform should reflect the realities of today’s world.
BRICS continues to push for a fairer global system, where Africa, Latin America, and Asia are no longer marginalized, and where development agendas are shaped by inclusive, multipolar governance.
